The Light in the Darkness

There is something within all of us that searches: searches for value, searches for belonging, searches for understanding, searches for healing. We feel like we are in the dark. Christmas is the end of our searching because in Jesus, we find value, we find belonging, we find understanding, and we find healing. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Darkness is not a metaphor for pain. It is a metaphor for presence. Even in our pain and loss we do not walk in the darkness because we have Jesus walking with us.
