Atonement

The hope of Jesus’s atoning death is hidden in the Jewish sacrificial system. Animal sacrifices were symbols of God’s love because they bore the consequence of sin. In the same way, our deliverance is totally contrary to what we deserve. By dying in our place, Jesus became our substitute. As Isaiah prophesied, Jesus is the king who becomes a conqueror through suffering as a servant.
